Polymath and Polymesh Join the STO Foundation as Founding Partners

News

Polymath and the Polymesh ecosystem have joined the STO Foundation as Founding Partners. On October 1, the Foundation becomes the Tokenized Asset Foundation, a name that better matches where this market has gone since security token offerings were the whole conversation.

What the Foundation actually does

The STO Foundation is a membership organization for the people building tokenized markets: issuers, financial institutions, law firms, compliance professionals, technology providers, investors, and market infrastructure companies. It runs education programs, industry events, directories, and the kind of ongoing conversation that helps credible projects find the expertise they need.

That sounds soft until you've tried to put a regulated asset on-chain. Most of the hard parts are coordination problems. An issuer needs a transfer agent who understands distributed ledgers. A fund administrator needs to know which chains a regulator will actually accept. A law firm needs to see how three other issuers structured the same thing before advising on the fourth. None of that gets solved by better code alone.

Why we joined

We've been building in this space since before most of the current infrastructure existed. Polymath pioneered the ST-20 security token standard, built the Polymath Capital Platform for issuers and asset managers managing the full lifecycle of digital securities, and developed Polymesh, a public permissioned Layer 1 built specifically for regulated assets. Polymesh handles identity, compliance, governance, confidentiality, and settlement at the protocol level, so those requirements aren't bolted on through smart contracts after the fact.

Seven years of that work produces a lot of practical knowledge about what breaks, what regulators ask for, and what issuers actually need on day one versus what sounds good in a pitch deck. Being a Founding Partner gives us a direct way to put that knowledge in front of the people who need it, and to learn from everyone else doing the same work.

The timing

This is happening now for a reason.

On September 1, 2026, the SEC proposed the first substantive overhaul of its transfer agent rules since the framework was written in the late 1970s. The proposal addresses electronic and blockchain-based recordkeeping, using distributed ledger technology for official securityholder records, and new compliance, risk-management, and cybersecurity standards for the firms that maintain those records. It's open for public comment for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.

The proposal raises the questions we've been designing around since Polymesh was first architected. How do you maintain ownership records on a distributed ledger? How do you verify identity and eligibility? How do you keep those records accurate, auditable, and available to regulators when they ask.

Natalie Hirsch, our CFO:

"Tokenized assets are moving from experimentation toward broader institutional adoption, and that transition requires strong infrastructure as well as meaningful cooperation across the market. The Commission's proposed transfer agent modernization raises the right questions. Joining the STO Foundation as a Founding Partner lets us work more closely with organizations across the tokenized asset lifecycle, contribute what we've learned through years of building in this sector, and help support the responsible growth of a more connected global market."

Part of our work with the Foundation will be engagement on the transfer agent proposal during the comment period. Rules written now will shape how tokenized securities operate for a long time, and the people who've actually built this infrastructure should be in that conversation.

What's next

We'll contribute to the Foundation's education programs, industry dialogue, and ecosystem development work, and Foundation members will get closer access to purpose-built tokenization infrastructure and what we've learned about bringing regulated real-world assets on-chain.

As Matt Andelman, our Head of Business Development, put it: "The tokenization market advances when issuers, institutions, technology providers, and professional services firms can find one another and work together effectively. We're excited to engage with the Foundation's global membership and help turn strong ideas and real assets into credible, scalable tokenization initiatives."
